As I said back in mid-March, developers, publishers, and online stores will begin offering their games for free for a limited time as a result of millions of people staying inside. Oh, how I do love it when I’m right. Twitch Prime has even switched up their former schedule of offering games to a weekly rather than monthly basis. It seems that the Epic Games Store was on the money with that one, now everyone is throwing free games around like it’s money in a strip club, or if you don’t want that seedy image, like smarties at a 5-year-old’s birthday party.

As of today, until May the 1st, Sega is outright giving away their 2011 real-time & turn-based strategy game set in feudal Japan, Total War: Shogun 2. The 7th game in the main series, was also the first in the series to put the “Total War” name ahead of the setting name unlike NapoleonEmpire, and Rome before it. It was also the direct sequel to the first Total War game released back in June of 2000, Shogun: Total WarShogun 2 would also be a return to form for the series, dramatically hitting the reset button while also keeping it simple enough that new players shouldn’t feel overwhelmed.

In a statement on the free-to-keep offer over on Steam, Sega said, “The past few weeks have presented unimaginable challenges to many of us, but the remarkable collective effort being made by the global community to overcome this moment of adversity has been truly inspirational.” They would go on to state, “With this in mind, we want to continue to encourage you all to stay home and save lives by extending a gift to everyone to help make this difficult situation a little bit easier.”

They would also go on to give a brief description of the game, including its feudal Japanese setting and massive real-time samurai battles that would take three weeks to plan; that armor was not easy to put on after all. Your turn-based role is taken up on the overview map of Japan from the northern island of Hokkaido down to the tip of Kumamoto. Along with this free offer, Sega is also doing a sale on a majority of the series.
