There isn’t much we know at the moment about the new Xbox Series S in terms of specs, price, or look. A few images online from fans speculate that it’ll be physically smaller than the Xbox Series X, but there’s no telling what we’re in store for. As some rumors have it, a reveal of the Xbox Series S, codenamed Lockhart, should be coming our way in May.
The idea for the Xbox Series S is to offer a console below the top of the line specs featured in the Series X. Why would someone want to play a console that’s less impressive than its companion? Well, for one, pricing. The Series S is expected to be cheaper than the Series X by at least $100, according to speculation. The best part of the Series S is also likely going to be its size. Rumors online believe everything about Series S will be less-than the Series X. A tiny little cube you could play Xbox games out of would be my dream.
Of course, this does mean that the Series S will be weaker in terms of technical capability. I own an Xbox One S and Xbox One X, don’t ask why, and I really enjoy both consoles. I don’t feel like I have a worse time playing the One S than the One X. In fact, I think out of the two I use my One S more. That has more to do with its location in my house, but nevertheless, I love it.
I think the price point is going to be a major influencer on consumers. Especially with the COVID-19 financial strains affecting everyone in one way or another, saving some cash could be a serious help for those looking to buy a new console this holiday season. We’ll keep you updated when we know more about the Xbox Series S with official reveals likely coming soon.
