In a stroke of very good news, Austin Carlile, who provided unclean vocals for Attack Attack! and Of Mice and Men in the past, took to Twitter to announce, “It feels good making music again.” As one of the most prolific voices in the genre of post-hardcore, his distinct vocal style, delivery, and lyricism has been sorely missed for the past five years. Thankfully, we get a chance to hear new music from Carlile once again.
Carlile has struggled with a disorder called Marfan syndrome, a problem with the body that creates issues with connective tissue. This demanded several surgeries for the vocalist, as it was beginning to affect his performances, requiring months upon months at a time for recovery. It appears that these detriments have subsided enough for Austin to have a chance to perform again, something he is quite excited to get back to.

Attack Attack! only saw Carlile perform on their first album, but the surging popularity of the genre saw his voice reach many ears with acclaim. His six-year tenure with Of Mice & Men was where he really got to shine, as he took part in four varying albums with the group. One of the most memorable moments in post-hardcore is within OM&M’s self-titled debut, where Carlile holds a scream for sixteen seconds straight in “This One’s For You.”
While Attack Attack! disbanded in 2013 after several other lineup changes and Of Mice & Men is enjoying success with former Jamie’s Elsewhere vocalist Aaron Pauley and Alan Ashby, one has to wonder where Carlile will employ his newest efforts. Could it be a solo piece, or is he set to join another genre staple? As he’s had several years to gather his thoughts through a troubling life event, it’s certain that wherever he chooses to sing next, we are sure to receive more quality vocals from Austin Carlile!
