The award-winning and critically acclaimed RPG Disco Elysium is officially receiving a port to the Nintendo Switch. News broke after the BBC spoke directly with developer ZA/UM.
BBC 5live’s ‘Game On’ podcast is a popular place for UK based developers to come on and talk games. It’s a great show, and even if you don’t live in the UK, I’d highly recommend it. I get it: there’s a lot of podcasts to listen to. This one is truly great and features a lot of fun conversations with art directors, writers, and other game industry professionals.
The exchange that prompted the announcement was pretty funny. Art Director Aleksander Rostov mentioned the port was underway, and when asked by the host, Adam Rosser, if things were coming along, he had a hilarious response. Rostov told Rosser, “this interview is, at this very moment, interrupting me from writing up design documentation for the user interface and input systems for the Switch port”
UK gamers fawned over Disco Elysium upon its release last year. At the 2020 BAFTA Games Awards, the RPG won three of the seven awards it was nominated for. Accolades included Best Narrative, Debut Game, and Music. The game won over plenty in the United States as well, making many journalists’ GOTY lists. There are a lot of people still unaware of the game, especially those not into PC gaming. That will change with the Switch port, whenever it arrives.
Disco Elysium is an RPG starring a detective on a murder case who suffers from alcohol and drug-induced amnesia. The game is heavy on dialogue; like really heavy. Without combat, the game utilizes Intellect, Psyche, Physique, and Motorics as a means to solve the steps of the case. We don’t have a date for the Switch port yet, but surely it’s a title to pick up when it happens.
