If you go back a few months ago now, in the bleary haze of leaks and the rise towards the new console generation, there was talk of a new Tony Hawk‘s game. Not to be confused with a Tony Hawks game, where you rap some Morris Minor & The Majors tracks. I’m talking about the games where you do more grinding than gay men just looking for a bear to snuggle up with at night. For a while now, those rumors and so-called “leaks” have since died out.
Then yesterday all the rumors kicked off again as the Australian band The Death Set had posted on Facebook, “Just licensed 5 new songs to Tony Hawk 2020. You’ll be hearing this s**t soon.” The post has since been removed from the social media site, pouring gas on to the fire of rumors, leading to speculation by many of what this reported new game could be. The post was captured by one Twitter user and reposted on the second social media site has since been spreading like wildfire.
New Tony Hawk Pro Skater game inbound!
Keeping hopes low after the long, long row of abysmal games since Tony Hawk's RIDE.
But this also seems like a major NDA breach. pic.twitter.com/gGUiNZL6i8

Of course, the license of the series lapsed just under five years ago now when all Tony Hawk’s games were published by or licensed out by Activision. Since then there has been one release by the Los Angeles and Quebec based Maple Media, a small studio developing mobile games. One would assume with the aforementioned idea of licensing out music, the game in question would not be for mobile phones. The reasoning is that it is not common for the nature of these smaller and often cheaper games to spend the unnecessary money to license out any known music.
The last possibility, though highly unlikely and risky for the band, could be a PR stunt. When talking about the future of the games series Hawk has said that he would want the next game in VR, another platform of gaming that does not spend too much on music by known artists. Though this speculation could be wrong, the band might have broken many agreements in their quick reaction of excitement. However, do not hold out hopes for the Pro Skater series to come back without Activision having a say, as they own the rights to that series.
