Numbers from this past week’s sales of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX are in, and they look pretty high for this Game Boy Advance remaster.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game. To be honest, I thought this might hurt the series’ return on the Nintendo Switch. Instead, it turned out great. The last game in the series was Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, which released on February 2016 on Nintendo 3DS. At the time, it debuted poorly at number 9 in the U.K. The new game, released last Friday, is showing early sales are 37.6% larger.
The premise for the game is pretty simple. What if you woke up one day, and you were a Pokemon? In the game, you can meet and recruit over 400 Pokémon while dungeon-crawling and building a rescue team to help other Pokemon in need. The remaster looks and feels modern, despite its original version being decades old now. The new version adds Mega Evolved Pokémon, gorgeous watercolor-inspired graphics, and a few other tweaks to emphasize the game’s highlights.
The U.K. numbers are the only ones reported as of now, but the game has some decent numbers to compete with from its original. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team had sold over 761,000 copies in Japan, while Red Rescue Team had sold just over 715,000 copies. A successful launch of this game could help the numbers for the Sword and Shield DLC later in June 2020.
