I’m a big fan of aerial combat games, but I was thrown off at the idea of Baron: Fur is Gonna Fly. Who doesn’t love a good dogfight and some split-screen battles for a fun game night? Well, the action in Baron: Fur is Gonna Fly is limited, but is a great time when played with other people.
Baron: Fur is Gonna Fly Gameplay
In Baron: Fur is Gonna Fly, up to eight pilots can share a single airspace at once and battle it out. Each pilot, which just so happens to be a cute little 20th century animal aviator, chooses a plane and variety of power-ups. 13 available weapons give you the option to play around with your choices and pick a favorite. I’m a huge fan of zapping people with what is essentially an electric fence by using the zapping ray.
Like any split screen battle game, the fun really comes down to killing your friends…in game, of course. You slide from one side of the screen to the other like Pac-Man, so the action only halts when you crash. The power-ups are easy to use, and the control of the planes keep things simple. The game does a great job of staying out of its own way in terms of making things more complicated than an animal-themed plane combat game should be.
Is there a Single Player Mode to Baron: Fur is Gonna Fly?
There is a single player mode for Baron: The Fur is Gonna Fly, but the experience is lackluster. The AI bots just aren’t that much fun to play with. The music, fun 20th century style visuals, and aesthetics are cute, but not cute enough to make this game fun by yourself. Multiplayer is the name of the game here, and although it’s nice that computer pilots are available, they really expose how limited the game’s action is when other people aren’t involved.
Is Baron: Fur is Gonna Fly Worth It for Switch Players?
I think if you regularly play couch co-op with friends, Baron: Fur is Gonna Fly is a great title to add to the game night mix. Other than that, you don’t get much more from this game than the short aerial battles you can play over and over. Baron: Fur is Gonna Fly isn’t a title that pretends to be something its not. It’s cute, it’s fun, and perfect for multiplayer action. Outside of that, don’t expect more than you ought to.
