I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the one time of the year I look forward to the most is E3. Yes, I have a burning hatred for all the cheesy nonsense that some publishers will do, such as Sony on their last year with The Last of Us Part 2 and that wedding venue. However, when developers and publishers just show us their games, their new games, and anything to do with those games I’m happy. I might not like them all, I downright couldn’t care for Destiny, Anthem, and Warframe, I’d rather look at the drying skidmark in a gentleman’s underwear.
That said, there are growing world concerns over the commonly dubbed Coronavirus. They are concerned over what is known as Covid-19, which could cause the Olympics to be postponed. The only times though history that the modern event has been canceled has been as a result of two world wars, even when 11 Israeli athletes and coaches were killed in a terror attack the event didn’t end early during the 1970 Munich games. Already this month the annual Games Developers Conference has been canceled, causing lots of trouble for many smaller developers around the world scheduled to attend the event.
So with only a few months until the annual event held in Los Angeles, E3 2020 is scheduled to go ahead without Sony this year again, “what’s the crack?” Well, according to an ESA rep speaking with Patrick Klepek of Vice Games: “Everyone is watching the situation very closely,” going on to say, “We will continue to be vigilant, as our first priority is the health, wellness, and safety of all of our exhibitors and attendees.” They suggested that at this time, the plan is to go ahead with the event. They went on to state – “Given what we know at this time, we are moving ahead full speed with E3 2020 planning. Exhibit and registration sales are on track for an exciting show in June.”
In the wake of a leak last year suggesting that the event will be packed with another ten thousand ticket holders. This could be a question of “if” the event will still sell out. With many people concerned over going out into the public while major health scares are around, some have taken up the idea of buying surgical masks that don’t help. Others just choose to not go outside, which has its own adverse effects, and the last few stupidly don’t wash their hands. As the usual “con flu” is already a thing, I could see a few people negating the event and staying home to watch the Microsoft, PC Gaming, and Square Enix events this year.
