There is a wide modicum of vocalists that have taken to YouTube to do cover songs for several years now. Artists like Denis Stoff of Make Me Famous, Lauren Babic of Red Handed Denial/Crazy Eighty Eight, and Drewsif Stalin have gained followings by showing off their chops in an unconventional platform to lead to their discovery. However, for a cover artist to break the mold and make a name for themselves in several successful bands? That is a rarity.

This rarity is present in Andy Cizek. Andy is the vocalist for three bands at the moment, all of which have gotten/are getting ample attention: Monuments, Makari, and Wvnder. In addition, he guest features on other projects exceptionally consistently, with solo work every now and then as well. With so much activity, one must think the man would get burnt out, but the output continues to be frequent and high in quality.

Andy’s big breakout video was in 2016, when Sumerian Records held vocal auditions. His original piece, entitled “The Current”, garnered hundreds of thousands of views, and put his name in a lot of mouths. Flash forward to 2020 and Andy has 82,000 subscribers and 8.6 million video views for his dozens of covers. What Andy can do is surreal; one moment he’s belting delicate high notes to Panic! at the Disco’s “Death of a Bachelor”, and the next, he’s bellowing deep gutterals to Rings of Saturn’s brutal “Senseless Massacre”.

What Andy is capable of is limitless. Seeing that his covers have spanned a wide variety of genres, there’s no telling what he’ll upload next. Being recruited for the high-profile Monuments in October of last year is a huge deal, and Andy has been having a fantastic time in his tour with the band over the past month. His ability to impress equally with clean and unclean vocals makes him a great fit for the band, and, with a new Makari EP (and hopefully album) on the way, there’s no slowdown with Andy. Hats off to this wonderful vocalist, with nowhere to go but up!
