Lately, I have been diving deep into The Witcher by playing the games, watching (and Reviewing) the Netflix series, and even reading the novels. It is safe to say that I am infatuated with the world, characters and lore. Now that season two has begun production, I may not be loving the show but I am looking forward to what a second season could bring. I’m also interested in how it could expand on the already massive amounts of lore and content that CD Projekt Red have already dived into.

New characters were announced for season 2 as well. This includes Game of Thrones star Kristofer Hivju who will play Nigel, Lambert a rival Witcher to Geralt reportedly being played by Paul Bullion. Two more additions include the character Coen another Witcher who helps train Ciri in the novels played by Yasen Atour, and Violet who is a character I have not heard of yet that will be played by Carmel Laniado. As far as we know right now, these are all of the new characters who should be making appearances in season two.

The second season has begun filming in the UK and will not air on Netflix until 2021 for production reasons. I am looking forward to seeing how some of these characters are going to be integrated into the story, as well as how much of the novels and games will influence future stories. Will they take a more Game of Thrones approach by creating a more original story, or will the show runners decide to adapt the books more faithfully?

This has yet to be cleared up but overall I think that The Witcher has some true potential in being a great show. As of right now it is a rocky start to the series, let us hope season two brings us a clearer story, better character arcs and more great action.
