The popular country-life and farming simulator, Stardew Valley, is celebrating a huge milestone this week: 10 million copies sold. Considering the development and story of the popular game, it’s wild to see that so many have played the title. It’s a great game, but an even better lesson in betting on yourself and going for something you truly care about.

Stardew Valley isn’t the product of some major development or publishing studio. In fact, the game designer, Eric Barone, tricked a lot of people by developing the title as ConcernedApe. In reality, he took over four years to self-develop the title. During the process, he taught himself the necessary skills to produce the game’s music, art, programming, and design. The game was released on PC on February 26, 2016, and within two months passed 1 million copies sold.

From there, Barone moved the game to other platforms. The game expanded support to Mac and Linux, and later released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in December 2016. Then, Nintendo Switch players got the game in late 2017, and iOS in October 2018. With a number of different updates coming over the years, the game continues to grow in player base and sales.

10 million copies sold is huge for any game, let alone a title developed by an, at the time, novice coding and design creator. The creator of popular farming game Harvest Moon has praised Barone for his work. You can really see a lot of love and passion in the making of this game, and the developer seems like a downright great guy. Hopefully, if you haven’t checked out Stardew Valley, you’ll take the opportunity soon.

The game is available for PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, PS4, Switch, and iOS. You really don’t have an excuse!
