PlayStation’s fourth State of Play kept up the announcements with their latest video series that airs every few months. This 20-minute show was tight and well-paced but overall brought little in the way of exciting reveals. We started off the show with a trailer for House House’s claim to fame, Untitled Goose Game. This goose simulator will be launching on PlayStation 4 in a few days on December 17th, 2019.
Now with all the attention that Battle Royale games like Apex Legends and Fortnite are getting, it is no wonder that another developer wants to try and capitalize their place in the market. The team over at Proletariat Inc are doing just that with Spellbreak. Spellbreak has piqued my interest with its magic-based combat; it looks like a more unique take on the battle royale genre and one I would like to test my skills on when the closed beta starts in the spring of next year.
Media Molecule used to be a big name with the Little Big Planet series, but after that, they used their unique ideas to make some extremely stellar games like Tear Away. Now they have developed the game creator Dreams. Dreams take its community and encourages people to work together to create games of all different genres. Earlier this year Dreams launched in early beta and now on February 14th players will get the full access of games and creator tools.
Superliminal was the next game shown off and for some reason, it triggered my anxiety. There was something about this trailer that put me on edge though it seemed to be a puzzle game that messes with perspective; it gave me horror game vibes as well. Superliminal launches on PS4 next year. If you would like to learn more about Superliminal, check out Phenixx Gaming’s review of the PC version!
A new VR game, Paper Beasts, developed by Pixel Reef was revealed today; it screams No Man’s Sky inspiration which if done properly could be a very good thing. Here you observe the paper wildlife and you can manipulate the structure of the creatures and the landscape as well. Paper Beasts will launch on PSVR in Q1 of next year.
Kingdom Hearts 3 REmind will be released for PlayStation 4 on January 23rd of next year, the story will follow shortly after a big plot point toward the end of the game. During this part of the story we will follow the seven hearts of light as they fight Organization 13. For the first time, fans will be able to play as Kairi as well as fill in some of the plot holes that the main game presented its players.
Predator Hunting Grounds was shown off once again but this time with a release date of April 24th, 2020. This 4v1 game has the making of something special as the player takes control of the iconic Predator as they hunt down 4 human soldiers.
Next up was Babylon’s Fall, Platinum Games’ next AAA game. The short trailer showed off a gorgeous medieval-style world with pretty flashy combat. More information will be shown off this summer so I would expect to see it at E3 this year.
The biggest game to be “revealed” during State of Play was Resident Evil 3 Remake. This Capcom title has been leaked more times than I can count, but it did have a really nifty reveal trailer. It was shown off and revealed to be the single-player campaign for Resident Evil Resistance. I was under the impression that Resistance would be a stand-alone title yet it seems to not be the case. Resident Evil 3 Remake will be released on April 3rd of next year.
State of Play ended in the most disappointing way possible, with a quick 30-second trailer for my most anticipated game. The trailer showed Ghost of Tsushima, developed by Sucker Punch, the team made famous by Sly Cooper and Infamous. The teaser trailer ended with the promise that the rest will be played during The Game Awards later this week.
