Earlier this decade, I spent a few years living in Edwardsville, Illinois, where I would end up meeting and working with Sarah Gallagher, who is now a musician under the name of Stroud. I would occasionally see snippets of her playing one of many instruments while singing on Instagram, and I thoroughly enjoyed everything I heard from her. The soaring vocals were captivating and revealed a strong handle on her talent.

While none of her music is on any streaming platforms, she has now released a music video for her original song, “Wild Child Again”. This track employs an interesting variety of instruments, including a tambourine, acoustic drum, and a big focus on bass, including a solo near the end of the release. Sarah’s vocals are quite unique in the sense that in some sections, she can sound like an indie pop vocalist, yet she can employ Soul elements on the elongated notes.

“Wild Child Again” sees Sarah dance around and vibe with a forest preserve in Edwardsville, with several nature shots and a sporadic wardrobe from the artist. The lyrics match the tone of the video, such as “So now I’m gonna shine all my life, and I don’t care if it’s too bright for some people; they can look the other way if they don’t like it.” The level of comfort Stroud displays is exemplified both in the words she sings and the wacky dance moves she busts in the freeing nature she surrounds.

Sarah regularly performs at bars and open mic nights in the Edwardsville area, enjoying long sets where she can let loose her creativity. It is my hope that she can move up to larger venues and larger audiences in the nearby St. Louis area, such as The Firebird and The Ready Room. For now, I would recommend checking out this video and her socials! You can see more of Stroud at @wildmindedwoman on Instagram and Stroud Music/Art on Facebook.
