I love a good game that will twist and bend you a little. Those games that will tell you one thing for you to find that there’s something bigger going on in the background. A game that recently did that well was Superliminal, which Alexx reviewed recently. It is rare for one of those types of games to come along, especially one that does so for the comedy of it all, which Portal did beautifully. In fact, the last game to pull that off wonderfully was The Stanley Parable, a beautiful game that tells you to do something and pulls that rug out from under you.
Now almost a year since the announcement that The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe was in development, the publisher Crows Crows Crows has given an update. As it is in the title of the article, I don’t have to spell it out that they need a little more time to give final touches to the game. This was first announced in the video where Kevan Brighting, the game’s narrator, as well as narrator in Dungeons 3 and Void Bastards, replies to some emails.
So it seems the game will be delayed until the pre-summer of 2020, allowing the team to effectively get the game to the absolute best it could be. In the very short press release, Crows Crows Crows said, “The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is the remaster/expansion to The Stanley Parable,” going on to state, “bringing the original game and new content and endings to computers and consoles alike.” They then led into the video of Kevan reading the emails with pitch-perfect delivery for all of them. In true Stanley Parable tradition, the update both pulls the rug and tells you something else to look forward to.
The closest we have to an official word on the new release window is: “Delay the Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe to 2020, to sometime probably before summer, but it sort of depends on the specifics of how development goes.”
