He was a “Sk8er Boi,” she is an American on the Finnish national skateboarding team for the Toyko Olympics in 2020, and I’m tired of playing the same two skating games. There’s a point where you’ve collected all the letters, got the million point combos, and broken your neck several million times too many. Well, that and Tony Hawk’s Project 8 is just a bit crap. Though the last in the main series under Activision went down like a cold pint of your best friend’s urine to many, released last minute, and filled with more bugs than a stuffed bear in a children’s hospital.

However, over the weekend, and for the last month, the rumor and innuendo mills have been running wild with talk of a new Tony Hawk’s game in the works. Most notably would be a known leaker stating that Activision has been prototyping some kind of skateboarding game, rumored to be Pro Skater 1 and 2 remakes, and this could be an indicator of something new in the series. While at the Wired offices, Hawk was asked by someone on Twitter about a new THPS game and he states Activision owns that license. It is not out the question, though Hawk did go on to state he was willing to work with them still.

This, however, is not the only piece of information that is doing the rounds for Tony Hawk’s name. The second piece to “confirm this” comes as part of a supposed off-handed back-and-forth between Lizzie Armanto and (Warning: Comments contain strong language) The Nine Club with Chris Roberts podcast. As reported by Alex Avard of Gamesradar.com, the podcast released last month features a tiny clip that goes almost unnoticeable. So unnoticeable that the piece was reportedly edited out of the YouTube version (linked above) and left in the Soundcloud version.

However, upon reading that the YouTube version was edited I’ve checked both versions to corroborate this claim. While it is a short piece on Armanto being featured in THPS 5, the section on gaming goes on a little longer, and to my knowledge doesn’t feature the reported statement, “[Hawks is] coming out with another one, and I’ll be in that too.” While there aren’t any noticeable edits (outside the obvious) to show either was cutting that particular line. Though there was speculation that was the case as Alex of Gamesrader.com states in his article, now both match fairly well, however, the Soundcloud version is a whole second longer.

As usual with these types of rumors, there is always a grain of salt to be had. Some have speculated that the new game/games would be announced at the upcoming Game Awards next month, though if they are only in the prototype phase, I could see that being a long way off.
