For over ten years now, Ubisoft has been letting open-world games fall out of them like one does when they have diarrhea and a Nintendo Switch. Now it seems the company is taking a step back following a disappointment last month upon the release of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint. It is fair to say, given the backlash the company has received for several of these soggy flops on the floor, it isn’t surprising. What is surprising though, is Ubisoft’s response to the criticism and general backlash.

In a press release issued by Ubisoft last week, the company has rearranged its line up for the next year. The company was set to release Watch_Dogs Legion in March of next year, along with Gods & Monsters February. However, because of the downward spiral that the company finds themselves in after two disappointing releases this year, both Legion and Gods & Monsters, along with Rainbow Six Quarantine have been delayed.

In a quote, Yves Guillemont, CEO and co-founder, said: “We have not capitalized on the potential of our latest two AAA releases. For Ghost Recon Breakpoint, while the game’s quality appeared on track, critical reception and sales during the game’s first weeks were very disappointing.” Seemingly painting both Breakpoint and The Division 2 in a fairly unflattering light.

With that, the company state that Watch_Dogs LegionGods & Monsters, and Rainbow Six Quarantine, have all been pushed back into the fiscal year of 2020-2021. Possibly putting the former two back just weeks, though it could be months for all we know. The latter, Quarantine, was the only one of the three without a confirmed date already. This news comes months after Ubisoft Singapore’s action piracy game Skull & Bones was delayed (again) into 2020 as well.

It goes without saying, but delays should inherently be seen as a positive. Otherwise, we find the mess 2K is in with WWE 2K20. The game may not live up to several people’s hype, though it would certainly be better than delivering a broken pile of mess. As I’m sure many people who were shocked and horrified by the faceless beings in Assassin’s Creed Unity upon its release. However, in the press release, Ubisoft states that for their 2020-2021 schedule they have 5 games planned.
