Some people have very weird tastes. For example, in Scotland, there is a thing called “Brown Sauce,” which is a thick brown substance with ale, wine, ketchup, spirit vinegar, black pepper, and other bits like molasses. It is a tangy bit of spice to add to food, it is great on a “bacon butty.” The closest thing in America would be called ‘steak sauce,’ but it is not the same. However, some people will do the wrong thing with this condiment, such as some creepy sod putting it in (Warning: contains swearing) a cup of coffee. I would rather defecate in my cup; after the fact, but still.
Nonetheless, the taste I’m on about today is not that which you do with your tongue. I’m more concerned about the meaning of what one likes and dislikes: Say putting brown sauce on two battered sausages and chips from your local fish and chip shot, that’s good. Putting brown sauce in your coffee means you should be elected to be fired into the sun at terminal velocity. My objectively correct opinion here aside, another thing you shouldn’t do is search for game-related content on a pornographic website. The latter being something many did recently following the end of Fortnite Chapter 1.
In the last week or two, you may have seen or heard about “Fortnite 2” on Twitter as some kind of leak. Well, these weren’t entirely wrong as there is a type of evolution Fortnite has gone through which has led to a number being added to the game; however, at the core, it is the same game. What preceded this number being tacked on was the “black hole event,” taking place during server maintenance time, it engulfed the community of Fortnite players (teenagers and children). All you could do is watch this black hole do as one does and absorb everything.
To cut this long story short, the game has changed, though it is for the better and is more so an update to the existing game. Hence the “chapter 2” add-on. Though it does seem the event sparked interest on some websites outside of gaming, and indeed, Epic’s control. An example of this, is a site not particularly for teenagers or children at all: Pornhub.
Now it goes without saying, what I’m about to link to is not explicit or sexual in any way, shape, or form. However, what I am about to link is part of the Pornhub site, specifically their blog post section for announcements and press associated nonsense. As Pornhub saw exponential growth in searches for Fortnite related content on the 13th of October.
According to the site’s announcement of their growth, the number of searches on their site containing “Fortnite” ran up a maddening 152 percent. The spike particularly jumps on the 12th through 14th. However, the percentage for the searches including the words “black hole” increased 9640 percent, with a new search being “Fortnite black hole.” Yes, searches before did not include Fortnite, but something very different.
I would like to speculate that part of the percentage jump may be part of an industry-wide problem. As anyone who has traveled to the home page of one of these particular sites can tell you, outside of general public uploading, the participants of the entertainment are not often people of color. There has also been an uptick in content uploaded by the general public that isn’t the intended purpose of the site at all. Some are uploading Let’s Plays of games like those seen on YouTube, with one comedian uploading content of their show to the gay section with an explicit caption.
This is not the only gaming or outside entertainment falling into the spike for the pornographic site’s searches. One of the many other terms includes: Overwatch, Minecraft, Pokémon, Rainbow Six Seige, and Team Fortress 2. It goes without saying, a pornographic site is not Google, it will not provide answers to why servers are down. The scary thought is that without Fortnite to play, many turn to playing with their own buttons or joystick.
