During sports games, I don’t know what they are called though I’ve been to a few, the Scottish fans really don’t make an effort. Americans will roar out “U.S.A” three times with a pause to repeat again. Scotland’s equivalent is a low drawl sound which is depressing, and hardly shows support. No wonder the only thing I find great about Scotland is the thriving games industry. Have you played the PS3 port of Elder Scrolls IV? Ports of Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie for the 360? How about Minecraft on any console? All developed by 4J Studios. Then there are Rockstar games.

Well, according to a site called Scottish Games, covering the Scottish games industry, Ruffian Games are hiring developers for their next project. The company may sound familiar as they developed a game called Crackdown 2, something I’ve heard only bad things about. However, much like 4J, Ruffian has done several collaborations, particularly with Microsoft Studios. Their first of which was Kinect Star Wars. They continued with the Kinect for some time after this.

Then around 2014, when the Kinect died a late death, Ruffian was allowed to play with Bungie’s toys and make Halo: The Master Chief Collection for the Xbox One. I liked this one because it has a button that takes the shiny graphics and throws them in the bin; it is hilarious to look at Halo‘s original textures. More recently they worked once again on Crackdown, with Crackdown 3‘s multiplayer. Then earlier this year, also releasing the Master Chief Collection on PC; I hope the texture button is still there.

Now it seems they are doing a collaboration once again, but this time for fellow Scottish developers, Rockstar Games. There is no word on the specific title, though the statement, “[Ruffian Games are] now working closely with Rockstar on upcoming titles,” is interesting. This suggests there may be several ports coming of what some would call “classic” Rockstar games, which I would call my childhood of killing prostitutes and making out with bullies.

As Scottish Games’ article covering the vacancies at the studio small Dundee studio expresses the fact that this is a Rockstar project, yet there is little publicly said about the game(s) in question. The positions are to be permanent, and given Rockstar’s catalog, one could easily hazard a guess at what these senior, systems, UI, graphics, gameplay script, senior graphics, and general engineers will be working on. Personally, I hope for a Bully port with some proper textures or a remake of GTA Vice City with the same great music.
