We all know the story: Ubisoft is at a bar, an attractive young open-world action game is in the corner, and Ubisoft just have to force themselves on that open-world game until they have had seventeen children. That’s the story of Assassin’s Creed, a series that’s been going for twelve years. That being said, I’ve only had brief interactions with a small group of the games. Though I do think I have enjoyed at least half of those that I’ve played, and all if we only include those that I’ve played more than about two hours of.

By far, one of the series’ high points was Black Flag, if you ignore all the boring land bits. Then there was a side game around Unity called Rogue, which followed an Irish man so Americanized he might as well have been called Guinness McPot-o’ Gold. Rogue was the last PS3/360-era Assassin’s Creed game and had as much pomp and circumstance as a fart in a lift (an elevator, if you are an American). Though it does sit well as a nice extension to the wonderful Black Flag.

The pair were announced yesterday to be coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year. They are bundled together as the Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection, coming December 6th, 2019 with all the DLC for both games. Graphically they look less like they do on the PS3 or better still than Black Flag does on PC, however, that does suggest they are both running on the Switch. Despite this, one does have to point out how the remaster of Assassin’s Creed 3 ran, which was temperamental at best.

I have been more recently been enjoying Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for its scope, design, and ability to dangle off of Zeus. This will be a great opportunity to return to the roots of this deviation from the series’ beginnings. That is until the next game coming in 2020.
