Hunt: Showdown isn’t the only multiplayer shooter on the market. In singles, duos, and trios, you can take on hordes of enemies like a number of other games. The thing it has going for it? Its’ 1895 time period.
Savage, nightmarish monsters roam the Louisiana swamps, and you are part of a group of rugged bounty hunters bound to rid the world of their ghastly presence. It’s a fun take on the, at this point, overused excuses to be shooting people online. At least this time around, it’s a bit different. Where some games have you fight zombies, and other humans even, this game has you take on demonic monsters and other horrors. Banish these creatures, and you will be paid generously, as well as being given the chance to buy more gruesome and powerful weapons. Fail, and death will strip you of both character and gear.
Between swamp monsters that look like hellish octopi and decrepit zombie women who are surrounded by blood thirsty bats, this is a game worth keeping an eye on. Early Access on Steam found players loving the experience, minus some normal bugs in the matchmaking and sound. The game is also in Game Preview on Xbox One, but the official launch date is delayed. Some Amazon listing seem to imply a late September release, but nothing is certain as of now.
The game seems to be a nice take on horde-style shooters. In fact, it doesn’t look or imply any sort of influence in terms of style and presentation. That makes it a must-try in our books.
Hunt: Showdown is out now on Steam, and available for Game Preview on Xbox One. An Xbox release date for the official launch version of the game is pending for a release later next month.
