Recently, pictures of a patent filed by Sony which may or not be the PS5 design, have been surfacing online. The patent (originally found by Letsgo Digital) was shown on Twitter, with people speculating its nature. We aren’t a hundred percent certain that this is in fact the patent for the PS5 dev kit, as it isn’t confirmed by Sony. All we know for sure so far is that it was listed by Sony as an unknown device registered on August 13th, with the patent being registered through the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office). Sony technical director Yusuhiro Ootori is listed on the patent as its designer.

The design, however, does look interesting, boasting a V shaped look possibly referencing the Roman numeral V, meaning the number 5. It also has a bulky and heavy look, The picture below showing a giant button in front, and numerous ports which seem like USB ports, The V shape itself also seems to be the exhaust system which is no surprise as a console that size must generate quite a bit of heat.

As dev kits rarely ever look like the finished console, It may not be a dev kit at all, it could be a completely new Sony product related to gaming or a next iteration of VR. It’s also possible that this could just be a placeholder image or a prototype, with its design subject to change in the future.

Though If the console looks even remotely similar to the design we’ve seen so far, It would be the most interesting console to date.
