A pleasant surprise this Gamescom was the reveal of Little Nightmares 2. Its’ first trailer was revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, where Dave Mervik, senior narrative designer on the game, revealed some extra details for the new sequel.

The first big change from the original is the existence of mono a new sidekick/companion alongside six. Mono and six will journey to a new location called the signal tower; which will be a an important part of the story. Mono will be an AI-controlled partner alongside us on our platforming journey, but sadly isn’t available for multiplayer of any sorts. Which is confusing as it seems like a missed opportunity.

The trailer doesn’t specifically state a lot of information on the game but it does show a lot. During the trailer new locations can be seen. According to Mervik, the sequel will take Mono and Six through areas like the woods and abandoned shacks. With that said, it’s safe to say this sequel will bring new experiences, as it seems more broad than the original; promising a bigger game than the last.

Another big change from the original Mervik revealed, is that Little Nightmares 2 will feature a new combat mechanic alongside the puzzle platforming. Mono and Six can be seen going up against new enemy types such as a hunter and some “sadistic teachers” seen in the trailer. The trailer also shows off a few kitchen utensils/tools that appear to be the game’s weapons. Mervik states that players can use these weapons to keep try to keep themselves safe, which means its’ purpose is most likely intended more for defense than offense.

Little Nightmares 2 is expected arrive sometime in 2020 to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.
