For the last 20 or so years, I’ve been avoiding the Resident Evil franchise like a bad smell, with only two games heralded as great and six million movies all over the place. It is hard to know where to start. I’ve seen bits of the movies in passive viewings, insofar as it has been on and I’ve been in the room. However, I wouldn’t say I’m a big fan, especially since I’ve only played a little bit of RE 4, and often think about giving my local Walmart the $20 for their copy of RE 7. That said, what I have seen of the movies has been several mountains of madness.

Back in January there were rumors of the insanity continuing into a Netflix series, like The Witcher is. While those rumors are yet to be verified, the English director of titles I swear could only be direct-to-DVD movies, Johannes Roberts, has confirmed the untitled movie reboot on IMDB to be real. This reboot is to be written by Greg Russo, why does that name sound familiar? Russo is also working on the Mortal Kombat movie slated for 2021.

In an interview with Screenrant, Roberts said, “We are in active development of that at the moment. I pitched them a take, and they really loved it. So, we are just gearing up on that as we speak, really. I’m in the office all the time there. So, yeah, it’s great. It’s gonna be super scary. It’s super, super scary. And it’s just getting back to the roots of the game. I think, at the moment, I’m not really allowed to say much more than that. But it’s gonna be a lot of fun.” It seems he’s really excited about the project.

Roberts previously directed 47 Meters Down and its sequel, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, which only released a few days ago. With both movies getting around 50 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, it could only mean something great is coming to the Resident Evil franchise which sits between 20 and 37 percent. I can not wait for pure insanity to ensue.
