Lucah: Born of a Dream is a character action game in a nightmare world of trauma and vague histories; which released on PC last year and earlier this year on the Nintendo Switch. This nightmare continues into Lucah: The Descent, a free expansion that’s due to come out on August 21. The Descent is described to be the final thematic conclusion for Lucah: Born of a Dream.

The game, in line with its’ religious themes, contains short stories called “Sacraments,” with a lot of them following different characters in the world or giving a more personal look at the player character. The Sacraments are mainly bits of interactive fiction, though one of them spins off into a turn-based RPG system. The new expansion will bring a new Sacrament, which is presumably Sacrament II, which was mysteriously absent from the game. The new Sacrament likely won’t be a happy one, given that the tagline is “If you cry out and no one hears, how can you still have hope?” That is a raw tagline, it’s “pick a god and pray” tier writing.

However, the DLC is not all angsty writing and despair. The new content will introduce new encounters and enemies aimed to push the boundaries of Lucah‘s combat system; to give a final blend of emotional narrative and tight combat. Appropriately, the Descent is accessed at the endgame; a hatch in a building in Track 7 that previously couldn’t be opened will lead into this new content. Will there be a hopeful end at the end of the abyss? Will ripping apart through the worst of the nightmares and traumas finally bring peace? Who knows?

The Descent expansion will be coming out on all platforms. Want to know what’s the deal with Lucah: Born of a Dream? Check out my review of the Nintendo Switch version.
