The 2017 Nintendo Switch and 2019 Nintendo Switch look identical out of the box. Why is it that so many are looking to upgrade? Huge tech boosts.
The 2019 Switch model boasts a battery life of 3-6 hours undocked, with the lower end being more of the norm during games like Breath of the Wild. The 2019 model can hit up closer to 9 hours undocked on BotW. That’s a big difference. It also runs 8 degrees cooler than the original thanks to more efficient specs inside the console. Between the new Switch and the launch of the Switch Lite, you might be thinking it is time for an upgrade.
GameStop is assuming you’re thinking it is time too, which is why they’re offering a pretty big trade-in deal. Say what you will about GameStop, but I’ve always found their console trade-ins ahead of new iterations or generations to be quite fair. So, what do you get for trading in a Switch? $225. That’s going to mean you’ll be turning in the Joy-Cons that came with the console, as well as the Dock, HDMI cord, and AC adapter as well. Basically, everything that came in the box when you bought it. If your Switch is damaged at all or looking worse for wear, you might not get the full amount. That’s up to the discretion of GameStop.
Let’s say you’re wanting a Switch Lite come September. There’s no telling that the value will be the same a month from now, but if it is, you can upgrade to the Switch Lite and still have some cash left over. That’s pretty good. If you’re still interested in playing on a TV, upgrading to the new 2019 Switch, dock and all, would cost you $75 plus tax. For the battery upgrade and fresh console/Joy-Cons, that’s well worth your consideration in my book.
