For a while now, you’ve been able to play Doom (2016) on the Nintendo Switch. You’ve also been able to play this edition and what we have to label as “classic” Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3 on PC. However, now you can do that again, but now you have to log in to an account you’ve forgotten you have; pay money to Bethesda, and ask yourself: “What is Bethesda.net? Did I rename Battle.net?”
On Friday morning, news began to break that the “classic” Doom (1-3) installments were on the Nintendo E-Shop for a moment. Soon after appearing the listings were removed, to later be reinstated again as Bethesda revealed their ports at QuakeCon. The night and morning following the announcement, after many fans had bought and downloaded the games, they found a major issue. If you were planning to play Doom 3 at all, you’d find a message along the lines of “A Bethesda.net account is required to play this game,” and you’ll only find this upon first booting up “classic” Doom and Doom 2. Why?
Well, Bethesda claims it is an error on their end. In two tweets sent out on Saturday morning, Bethesda claimed, “The BethesdaNet login … was included for the Slayer Club, to reward members … The Login should be optional … We will update everyone when a fix is ready.” However, that did not stop many fans from creating several of those “tasty memes,” whatever that means.
Looks like DOOM 1+2 require you to login into your Bethesda account before you can play
After your initial login, you can play it offline as well

These login issues are not exclusive to the Switch port, some PlayStation 4 players are seeing the same issue on their systems. So it seems in the interim between the patch and the present, some players, (with data caps for example) will have to put off their hell demon-slaying for a while longer. However, that hasn’t stopped the Mario, Zelda, Metal Gear Solid, and Castlevania themed jokes on the “A Bethesda.net account is required to play this game,” prompt.

Doom 1, 2, and 3 have all been ported to the PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One; Doom 1 and 2, however, have also been ported to Android and iOS stores as well.
