Spoilers for Avengers: Endgame Below!!!
This year Comic-Con has been full of some great announcements from Star Trek, Star Wars, and even some Westworld news. Fans of the geek fandoms have had a lot to celebrate about, and for the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the full slate of Phase 4 films and TV Shows has been announced.
Black Widow
Starring Scarlett Johansson the Black Widow solo film will take place between the events of Captian America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. It will follow Black Widow, though thanks to Marvel being masters of secrecy, not much else is known about the plot. Black Widow will launch Phase 4 on May 1st, 2020.
The Eternals
Starring Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Don Lee Lia McHugh, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff and Richard Madden, The Eternals are a group of million-year-old ancient humans who have been experimented on by an alien race and given powers like super strength, mind control, and shape-shifting, to defend Earth from otherworldly threats. The Eternals is set for a November 6th, 2020 release, just six months after Black Widow.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Shang-Chi is MCU’s first Asian lead film and will be focused on the martial artist Shang-Chi, as he fights to take down the organization known as “The Ten Rings,” lead by the iconic villain The Mandarin. Shang-Chi joins heroes from The Eternals, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Docter Strange, as a niche character that Marvel wants to put more spotlight on. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will release on February 12th, 2021.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
One of my personal favorite MCU films, Docter Stange, will be getting the gothic horror treatment in the sequel Doctor Strange and in Multiverse of Madness. This film will follow Doctor Stephen Strange and the Scarlett Witch as they fight the horrors from the multiverse. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be released on May 7th, 2021.
Thor: Love and Thunder
The follow up to Thor: Ragnarok will once again be directed by Taika Waititi, so you can expect a fun zany film full of humor, sarcasm, and a female Thor?!? Natalie Portman is returning to the MCU to reprise her role of Jane Foster. Thor: Love and Thunder is set for a November 5th, 2021 release date.
Three more films are coming but with no release dates. Those are Blade starring Mahershala Ali, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, Black Panther 2 and Captain Marvel 2.
Now, with Disney’s new streaming service launching in November, that means new Marvel shows as well.
Falcon and Winter Soldier
Falcon and Wither Soldier will star Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie as Falcon and Winter Soldier respectively. It will take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and give fans a deeper insight into who these two characters are. Falcon and Wither Soldier is set for a Fall 2020 release, exclusively on Disney+.
Wandavision
Kevin Feige has confirmed that Wandavision “will get weird” and it’s unlike anything Marvel has ever done before. Wandavision will take place after Avengers: Endgame and will bring back Vision in some way. Wandavision will launch on Disney+ in Spring 2021.
Loki
Loki is going to be a bit convoluted to explain, but I will do my best. In Avengers: Endgame during the “Time Heist” we return to the battle of New York set during the first Avengers film. During the heist, Loki manages to get his hands on the Tesseract and teleports away, so the Loki we will be getting isn’t the same Loki we see in Thor Ragnarok or Avengers: Infinity War. This is the Loki who still hasn’t forgiven Thor and is still bent on ruling Asgard. Loki will launch on Disney+ in the Spring of 2021.
What If…?
What If…? is an animated anthology series that takes MCU moments that we all know and love adds a spin to them. For example, what if Hawkeye’s daughter didn’t get snapped during Endgame? Would he still have become Ronin or would he have had a softer side to him? This series will also bring back MCU actors to reprise their iconic roles. What If…? is set for a Summer 2021 release on Disney+.
Hawkeye
Hawkeye will be set before Avengers: Endgame and will follow Hawkeye as he teaches Kate Bishop, who in the words of Jeremy Renner is “The Better version of Hawkeye.” Hawkeye will release on Disney+ in the fall of 2021.
