As is the yearly tradition, Overwatch is once again running a Summer Games event. As with past years, players have the chance of winning summer-themed gear for their characters. Characters get access to beachwear to go on vacation with, along with some more sporty skins and emotes in reflection of the Lucioball arcade game. As with other events, you also have a chance to get items from the past Summer Games along with the new stuff.

For new epic skins, Wrecking Ball’s mech becomes a Lucioball with its rider wearing a soccer uniform, and Genji gets a kendo-themed skin. Hanzo and Torbjorn also get epic skins showing off their beach bods, with Hanzo looking like he’s ready to jog on the beach and Torbjorn’s weaponry becoming sandcastle building tools. Of course, there’s a bunch of new emotes, sprays and intros going along with them.

New to the Summer Games are the weekly challenges. In all honesty, they don’t seem much like challenges, especially after playing Apex Legends and seeing its more goal-oriented challenge system. Each week simply asks players to win a set number of games in a week, which is the system that the arcade lootboxes already run on, anyway; so you can easily get the challenges if you’re getting the arcade rewards.

The challenge system runs for three weeks with different rewards. Win 3 games in a week and you get a spray. Win 6 and you get a summer-themed Pachimari avatar. Win 9 and you get an exclusive skin which, well, honestly doesn’t seem like much, as they’re all recolors. First week is an American flag colored Reaper, second week is Mei’s red colored Zhongguo skin and the third week gives Reinhardt a red and black colored Bundesadler skin.

Who needs to go outside on this fine summer day when you can play Lucioball and dress your favorite characters up in beachwear? The event is will run until August 5th, so if you’re interested in this stuff, get to playing!
