The idea of a physical edition of Tetris 99 seems like a head scratcher. The free-to-play game on Nintendo Switch is, well, free. Nevertheless, new couch co-op features and a battle mode for local play may warrant the price tag for some.

The physical edition of Tetris 99 is going to include the game’s latest DLC, as well as a one year #NintendoSwitchOnline subscription for $29.99. Is it a great deal? Well, let’s consider. A one year subscription to Nintendo Switch Online is $19.99, and the game’s DLC is $9.99 as well. In a way, physical collectors get a boxed version of a popular battle royale game for free, assuming they have not purchased the DLC and Online subscription. The physical game comes with new modes as well. With these modes, up to eight players can face off in a Local Arena, or you can challenge a friend and share Joy-Cons via the 2P Share Battle option.

In large-scale, 99-player battles, players use speed, skill, and strategy to knock out the competition and become the last player standing in battle royale Tetris matches. The game is certainly not short of players. Thousands of people play the game regularly, and tournaments offering Nintendo gold coin rewards have helped keep players up. Likewise, a Splatoon-themed tournament helped draw in an intersection of fans. The game required the Nintendo Switch Online subscription until a $10 DLC package allowed offline play. It’s been clear forever that Tetris is a huge draw, and this new take on the game is reigniting that fire.

The physical release of Tetris 99 will be available in the US starting September 6th, and EU regions September 20th. Previously, the physical release of Tetris 99 was only confirmed for Japan on August 9th, but a month later, the United States will get their turn at physical Tetris battle royale fun.
