The Megami Tensei franchise is Atlus’ core franchise; with the Persona series easily being the most popular. However, a lot of the early games were not localized. Out of the Super Famicom releases, the only one that got an official English translation was the first Shin Megami Tensei, via an iOS port released in 2014. Over the years, there have been fan translation efforts for Megami Tensei‘s Super Famicom library and as of July 15th; the whole library is now available in English with the release of a translation for Majin Tensei.

Hacked by DDSTranslation, translated by Tom, graphical edits by FlashPV and with an unofficial cover by @aLengthyUsernam, Majin Tensei is now up on Romhacking.net for those that are interested. Majin Tensei shifts the franchise’s constant battles against mythological demons to the field of strategy RPG’s, long before the Devil Survivor series did it. Along with striking enemies on the field, you can try convincing the enemies to join your side and fuse your demon allies together to craft stronger ones in the constant fight against the unholy.

DDSTranslation and Tom have previously worked on fan translations for other Megami Tensei games. DDSTranslation contributed to the Super Famicom game Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei, which is a remake of the first two Megami Tensei games that preceded Shin Megami Tensei I. Earlier this year, Tom worked on a translation for Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible, a Game Gear spin-off. They have also already translated Majin Tensei II: Spiral Nemesis, released last year.

Along with a translation for Shin Megami Tensei if… by the Aeon Genesis translation group released last year, there’s a lot of old stuff for Megami Tensei fans to check out. If this is a franchise you got into through Persona or if you’re tired of the complete lack of news on Shin Megami Tensei V; consider taking a dive into Atlus’ past.
