Nintendo has done it. They have made the Nintendo Switch smaller, more affordable, and somehow managed to not make them look like Frankenstein’s monster either. The rumors of a new version of the Nintendo Switch have been going on since about the time we started here at Phenixx Gaming. Almost one hundred articles ago, I wrote about the possibility of the announcement being made at E3. As you can tell, that didn’t happen. E3 was a month ago, and we didn’t hear hide nor hair of it.

However, the changes this time around are very interesting. Originally, the Nintendo Switch was promoted as this thing you could put into a dock and play on your TV. It also gave you the freedom to alternate between the docked mode, and a handheld portable mode, if you wished to take it on the go. The Nintendo Switch Lite will be 100 percent handheld, with larger battery life according to Nintendo. Also, with the console going fully handheld, you will be unable to switch out the Joy-Cons because it will be one solid unit.

With the console being one unit and fully handheld, the Nintendo Switch Lite will also be smaller than it’s predecessor. It is possible it will able to fit in your normal pocket, instead of my surprisingly large pockets that are like Mary Poppin’s bag.

The Lite version of the Switch will also come in some colorful cases. Previously, it was a black screen sometimes with colorful Joy-Cons, but now it is the whole console, coming in the very vivid grey, Simpsons yellow, and Caribbean Ocean blue or turquoise. Though, for the smaller, more colorful, and exclusively handheld Nintendo Switch Lite, you will be paying about $199.99(MSRP). It will release on September 20th, later this year.

Nevertheless, there is already a special edition of the console shown on the Nintendo website. It’s is a special Pokémon Sword and Shield edition, in a lighter grey with a blue set of buttons and stick on the left for Sword, with red/pink on the right for Shield. Releasing for the same price but at the later date of November 8th, you’ll be able to pick up this special edition of the Nintendo Switch Lite instead.
