Don’t tell the overactive parents who don’t understand games, but ever since a young age, I’ve loved the Grand Theft Auto series. This was my first experience of an open world game where I could go around stabbing or shooting anyone. However, because I am infinitesimally exciting, I’d often drive buses, trucks, or taxis around, even walking through the worlds for no reason other than to get some fresh air. I think I’m now a well-rounded human because of the series, no matter what Fox News says about sex, drugs, and gun-based rock and roll in video games.

Though since the release of Grand Theft Auto V (or 5), there have been constant rumors online of a Grand Theft Auto 6. Where it is set? Who are the protagonists? How many times will you blow up female prostitutes with a grenade because you’re all psychopaths? Once again, there has been another rumor based on very limited solid information.

Firstly, we should note that this information comes from Reddit user JackOLantern1982, who claims they have some friends over at Kotaku and PC Gamer. However, PC Gamer‘s Fraser Brown disputes this claim that PC Gamer has any information on the highly anticipated game. With that, we have to take everything this Reddit user claims with a grain of salt the size of the San Andreas fault line.

According to JackOLantern1982, the game is still under codename status as, “PROJECT AMERICAS,” and has been in development since 2012. They also cite that the game will be very similar to Red Dead Redemption 2 in its structure, as well as a lean towards “realism” while retaining its arcade style. However, you will be able to play in both Vice City and Rockstar’s fictional take on Rio De Janeiro. JackOLantern1982 is also claiming there will be a mission set in Liberty City. Also, you’d not be wrong to assume this “leak” also claims we’ll be heading back in time, to the 70s or 80s in a drug lords paradise.

If any of this does turn out to be true, even partially, I don’t want to spoil any of it for those that don’t want to read about that. To give you a light overview of those details, the focus is once again on drugs, possibly moving through periods like Mafia 2, and you’ll play as a man. The only other interesting claim by JackOLantern1982 is what stage the game is at. Already claiming a 2012 start for pre-production, the knowledge we have on Rockstar doing “crunch” periods, the details provided, and the claim of “It’s only in pre-alpha,” seems suspicious.

While we could already assume the next Rockstar game will be for the next generation of consoles, this claim of “[the] game is still in Pre-Alpha so names, locations, details could and probably will change.” seems more like a cop-out. The other claim I want to tackle is based on another highly anticipated Rockstar game, Bully 2. Other news sites have quoted a Reddit user (gfk53) about a leak for a possible Bully sequel. However, this user is has posted twice on Bully 2 leaks, with one of them featuring the flair “Fake/Misleading (read comments).”

While we can’t say with certainty either of these claims is correct or false, we can say that some of the information does not seem to be connecting enough for the theory to hold true.
