The Last of Us Part 2‘s release date may have just been pre-emptively leaked, due to comments made by Ashley Johnson. Johnson voices Ellie, and let it slip during a recent “Behind the Sheets” Interview. This proves that the source that gave the information to Jason Schreier (Kotaku’s News Editor) was likely telling the truth.
In a recent interview with Brian W. Foster, Ashley Johnson was asked about The Last of Us Part 2’s release date and seemed to have been in the process of saying “February,” before being interrupted by the interviewer (one hour and seven minutes in.)
This is in line with Jason Schreier’s tweet a few weeks ago, stating that the game was pushed from 2019 to an early 2020 date when he was commenting on the Death Stranding release date rumors.
Looks like Death Stranding is about to get announced for a November release. The Last of Us 2 was also planned for fall 2019 but I actually just heard it got bumped to early 2020, possibly February? Either way, wild final year for PS4 https://t.co/wh6kimA73b

The Last of Us Part 2 was revealed three years ago at the PlayStation Experience back in 2016 and has been highly anticipated by the PlayStation community. The past few trailers have shown off a much darker tone than the first game, and director Neil Druckmann has stated that The Last of Us Part 2 is about hate, while The Last of Us was about hope. This would explain the darker tone.
The Last of Us Part 2 joins an amazing line up for PlayStation 4’s last big year before it’s successor, presumably the PlayStation 5, hits store shelves in what is rumored to be holiday 2020. Sony seems to be releasing a few more big AAA titles to sunset the PlayStation 4, titles like Ghosts of Tsushima, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Death Stranding just to name a few.
