The long awaited and partly crowdfunded Shenmue 3 has, yet again, been delayed. Its release date has been pushed out of August and into the busy line up on November 19th. Creator of the Shenmue series Yu Suzuki had this to say about the delay over on Shenmue 3’s Kickstarter page:

“Whilst almost ready, the game simply needs a little more refinement before being truly finished,” it states. “We feel that the extra time we have will help us deliver the true Shenmue experience players around the world deserve! We thank you for your patience and understanding.”

Shenmue 3 was finally revived on PlayStation’s stage during E3 2015 to much fan fair and a tad bit of controversy. When Shenmue was first revealed, they asked for $2 million for development with Yu Suzuki saying, “The fate of Shenmue is in your hands.” It was only a short time later that after breaking Kickstarter records and blowing through its $2 Million dollar goal, Sony funded an undisclosed sum.

Shenmue first debuted in 1999 in Japan on the Sega Dreamcast and 2000 in other regions and has been extremely influential in the game industry.  Shenmue has been credited as “The first open-world city game” and popularized the QTE or “Quick Time Event.”

Both Shenmue and Shenmue II had long been lost to time, with the only available way to play them on either the Dreamcast or finding on original Xbox copy. That was the case until last year when Sega decided to remaster both of the Shenmue games in order to generate more hype and bring Shenmue to a new generation of gamers.

I picked up these remasters on the day of release and, unfortunately, have yet to get the chance to play them. This recent dealy excites me due to the extra time I now have to play the previous games.
