Roadmaps are the new thing in games. These “features” could be added prior to launch or a proper big Expansion Pack, however, are left to be added in weekly or monthly updates. In short, I’m personally not a fan of them. Nonetheless, IO Interactive has given an update on their June Roadmap for Hitman 2.
Being that I’ve recently bought and finished Hitman 2 in the previous week, I thought it best to bring this up. Without going too heavily into a review, I didn’t find the content of Hitman 2 all that satisfying or filling. It was a little sparse. However, as tends to be the case with many games of the last two years, “Roadmaps” are the outlines of updates to come. That being said, they shouldn’t be defended the way they are.
Let’s begin with the first piece of content from the Roadmap that was already available before June even began. The blueberry muffin from the “A New Life” mission in Whittleton Creek was added on May 28th. This “Challenge Pack” will allow you to take those muffins and throw them at anyone you want, not killing them, but knocking them down.
The next piece of content to drop is set for June 7th with a “Legacy Elusive Target” in Sapienza (from the previous installment). This is another issue I have with the two most recent Hitman games, but let’s focus on the targets themselves – The Guru and The Congressman. These two will be in Sapienza, so you will have to own the “Legacy Pack” to get these elusive targets.
This will be followed by an “Escalation Contract” on June 13th. To quote the Roadmap, “Now that you’ve got your muffins unlocked, we’ve got the perfect Escalation Contract for you to use them in.” As well as having the muffins from Whittleton Creek, you will be heading back there following the month’s theme of “Greed Kills.” Along with the short description, it seems you will be aiming straight at Helen, the muffin woman, for this one.
Speaking of the theme, on June 20th we’ll see the “Featured Contracts” showcased. The theme for the contracts happens to be “Assassin’s Greed,” which I’m sure someone’s middle school English teacher thought that was very smart. Though if you don’t know, the “Featured Contracts” are player created contracts with IO Interactive, and I’d assume other fans, deciding what are the best. Only dabbling in these myself, I can’t say this is too exciting. However, there’s a reason for this, as the few paragraphs don’t interject many rules, “Our themes for Featured Contracts are purposefully open-ended to make sure that […] creators […] are free to interpret them in many ways.”
However, we’ll also see another “Escalation Contract” from IO themselves on the 20th as well. This will be set in the Miami (race track) map with a shotgun-wielding 47 on the warpath. As I’ve previously said, I’ve not been one for touching the contracts, so I don’t know how well this will be implemented. On June 24th, IO Interactive are also setting themselves up to do a Live Stream revealing previously unannounced content and unveiling the July Roadmap.
Then we get to the meat of the Roadmap – the new missions and location. Both the new missions and location are set to release on June 25th. The first of which is “The Bank – Golden Handshake,” with the subtitle being the name of the mission that comes with the location. This is another US location, and one could assume you are tasked to kill one of the upper management members of the investment bank.
The new mission, however, is something new known as “Special Assignments.” Both of which are small missions, taking place in Santa Fortuna and Mumbai, where you’ll be tasked to take down two individuals. “Embrace of the Serpent” will most likely take place in Santa Fortuna and “Illusions of Grandeur” will be in Mumbai respectively.
However, those that are excited to play around with these missions in the contracts section will be disappointed, as IO Interactive has decided the main missions do enough in these locations. However, if you’d like to play either of these missions or the Bank mission, you will have to buy the “Expansion Pass” to access the content.
Along with these small expansions for the game, the 25th will also see an update. There is no detail on what this will include, however, this is said to be revealed in the aforementioned Live Stream.
The final two pieces of content for the Roadmap are another contract, this time in Miami, and another “Legacy Elusive Target”. The target will be in Marrakesh and will see the return of Hitman 1 (2016)’s Mr. Giggles. These will arrive on June 27th and 28th, respectively.
I can’t say I’m too terribly excited by any of these updates, though I wouldn’t say I am with the game as a whole. I’m sure those who found the game itself to be more enjoyable will find these updates very exciting.
