Thanks to leaked promo materials, we know NBA 2K20 is expected to be launched for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 6th. I log an insane amount of hours on NBA 2K titles, and really need to see a few things change to make me feel good about a Day One purchase. Here are 5 things, hopefully, coming with the new game from Take-Two and 2K.
Get Rid of MyPark – Or at Least Fix It
The idea of a park where players can meet up and play pickup games is great, in theory. In actuality, MyPark has been a disaster, with countless online flubs over the past few years. A simple matchmaking lobby, despite being less flashy, needs to be an option. Otherwise, way too much time gets spent standing around and waiting for games to be played. Plus, limited courts mean some times in the day are just downright hard to get some on-court action. That’s gotta stop.
Find Middle Ground on AI Defense
Two things happened in NBA 2K19. AI defense on the perimeter got really weak, and protection from AI in the post got ungodly impenetrable. To be honest, most people don’t make a player for MyCareer with the intention of playing as a pure post or center, but it’d be nice to have the option. Being stuck at 70 overall is annoying as is, but trying to score on JaVal McGee should be as easy as it is in real life. More intuitive AI is the request of nearly every sports game fan, but it’s worth noting that it seems to be in real bad shape.
More Dynamic MyTeam Experience
There’s something that is sorely missing from the last few NBA 2K titles, and that’s a dynamic MyTeam experience. Being able to control players, in the way a Football Manager game presents things, would be an easy but incredibly game-changing improvement. Give us player moods that go past the vague financial and championship influences. Give us players who strictly ask to play with other big-name stars. The NBA is not lacking in drama, so give us more drama to handle.
Fix MyPlayer Progression – For the Love of God, Please Fix It
MyPlayer is downright miserable to grind through without buying VC currency with actual money. People will pay for the clothes, tattoos, and other things because flexing is a blast at MyPark, but c’mon now. I should not have to wait and play through 90+ games to even get near 80 overall. It’s absurd. Almost as absurd as the final request on this list being something we have to ask for.
Give us an Offline MyCareer Option
I don’t mind the cutscenes, especially now that we can skip them. I don’t even mind the grind – I can look past it since I play MyTeam more than anything. What infuriates me is the fact that online connectivity is required for MyCareer. Give us the option to play offline as Madden does. It won’t make that much of a difference, and when players want to hop online and play MyPark, they can choose that. However, when I’m just wanting to play some Career Mode games and kill some time, I don’t want to be limited to only playing online.
Why didn’t microtransactions make the list? We all know they are not going anywhere. Yet, we can hope for these minor changes come September.
