It’s no secret that Square-Enix has a lot of mobile games. Most of them are ports of console games of varying quality, though they have a few gacha games; mainly based on the Final Fantasy franchise. One of their mobile games, however, is an original property: SINoALICE, directed by Yoko Taro of Drakengard and NieR fame. Soon, the game will be in the hands of global players.

SINoALICE released in Japan in 2017 on iOS and Android devices. Perhaps building off the original concepts for NieR, SINoALICE’s premise is built on corrupted fairy tales. True to the tone of Yoko Taro’s works, SINoALICE‘s world is a grim fantasy world where edgier takes on classic fairytale characters fight for the sake of saving their creators. Alice reflects the theme of bondage, bound to the will of another as a silent blade. Red Riding Hood reflects the theme of brutality, acting as a gleeful killer along the likes of Drakengard‘s Caim. Snow White is the token Yoko Taro white-haired killer lady, dedicated to the theme of justice, as harsh as it may be.

Aside from the tone of the game, fans of Yoko Taro’s past works will be happy to hear that Keiichi Okabe, composer for the NieR games and Drakengard 3, composed for SINoALICE as well.

It was announced last November that the global version of SINoALICE will be handled by Korean game publisher Nexon. Originally planned to be released in June, the global release has been bumped up to July 18. The global version of the game will have the NieR: Automata crossover event around launch, which is a good way to advertise the game, considering that the game was the director’s most successful effort abroad.

SINoALICE has a pre-registration campaign going that will grant goodies to people that pre-registered based on the number of people that already have done so. As of writing, SINoALICE has yet to meet the 500,000 pre-registration goal.
