E3 is almost here, but that does not mean Nintendo fans are without surprises or new games this week. In fact, a big surprise is likely coming in the form of a new Zelda game. The next Zelda game, officially titled Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring the Legend of Zelda, will seemingly launch this week for Nintendo Switch. It is not for certain, seeing as Nintendo of America’s website simply states the game will be released this “spring.”

That makes sense, given the debut of the game and its release window provided in a Nintendo Direct earlier this year. However, inspecting the site’s source code reveals a line that reads, “Release date: May 30, 2019.”

Source code is far from a certainty, but this is not a mined 4Chan post. This is the actual Nintendo of America website. Given the company’s Spring window, this would make sense. Cadence of Hyrule was announced back in March, which would make this a quick turnaround. The game is not exactly your typical Zelda title. It’s a crossover between Nintendo’s famous Zelda series and indie rhythm hit Crypt of the NecroDancer, which first launched in 2015. It’s a roguelike game where your actions have to be taken in sync with the beat of the soundtrack. Mix the Zelda IP with these niche gameplay styles, and you usually have a hit.

The new game is being developed by the same team behind the original, Brace Yourself. Its art style has been revamped since then, however, to match that of past Zelda games such as Minish Cap. Zelda crossovers are a huge hit, seeing as Hyrule Warriors made waves on three different Nintendo consoles. What can we say, Zelda is a favorite of nearly everyone who loves quality games. Sure, this is not a classic Zelda dungeon crawler, but it’s something. If this game drops like it looks like it will, we can only imagine what secrets are in store for E3.
