I’ve had my eye on a specific game for quite a while now. I distinctly remember excitedly backing its’ Kickstarter campaign a couple years ago when the game was first announced, and I’ve been excited to see it release ever since. The game in question is none other than The Executioner, developed by Lesser Evil Games.

Since I’ve had my eye on the game for as long as I have, I’ve grown somewhat disheartened in the past by the lack of news from the developers about their progress on the game after the Kickstarter campaign fell short of its goal. The developers have since graciously acknowledged and apologized for their long periods of silence.

Because of the lack of updates from the developers, I was pleasantly shocked earlier today when I stumbled upon a new post on the game’s official Facebook page. Within that post, Lesser Evil Games announced that The Executioner’s final release date is July 17th, 2019. The game will be released in two languages, English and Russian, at launch.

I’m actually nearly overjoyed to see that the game’s release date has (probably) finally been set in stone after a few delays; not to mention that the date is considerably sooner than I hoped. However, I should mention that according to the game’s Steam store page, The Executioner is an episodic title. Lesser Evil Games announced their plan to release a new episode every three months.

With that in mind, I hope that whatever content is included in the game’s first episode is substantial enough to keep me wanting more. After all, I don’t want to finish the episode in an hour or two and then find myself waiting for the next one. I personally think three months is a rather long time to wait for each new episode, but something tells me each episode will add enough content to make the wait worthwhile.

Within that same Facebook post, Lesser Evil Games stated that they intend to share “interesting stuff” with the community on a weekly basis. Whether this “interesting stuff” constitutes updates about the game’s development process remains to be seen. Regardless, I’m holding out hope that whatever the developers decide to share with their community will keep me interested in the game until its’ release date.

For those of you who might be unaware, The Executioner is (as its name implies,) a game wherein you play as the titular executioner and carry out related duties. That’s absolutely not to say that all you do in the game is bring down the headsman’s ax on the condemned, however. From my understanding, your main goal is to obtain a confession from people accused of crimes, which I presume you do by any means necessary.

According to the game’s Steam store page, your character “tortures people for a living while trying to retain his own sanity.” I interpret that phrase to mean that your character only does his job because he must, not because he enjoys it. That is, presumably, unless he loses enough of his own sanity to the point that he begins to take pleasure in his line of work.

That’s basically everything I can report about the game at this point. Regardless, I’m absolutely looking forward to The Executioner‘s release date. If you’ve found yourself interested in the game because of this article, keep checking in here on Phenixx Gaming. I most certainly intend to cover the game in detail as soon as I get my hands on it.
