Since the conception of the TV series, fans have been rabid (zombie-like) for The Walking Dead series. The graphic novels by Robert Kirkman have exploded and are visually appealing, though the TV series is far more popular. At it’s  peak, The Walking Dead reached 17.29 million viewers, this has since dropped. The season 9 viewership has dropped to an all-time low of nearly 5 million viewers. This is high for modern TV shows with several streaming services and the reality of piracy being what it is, though still fairly low in the overview.

Nevertheless, last year we saw Overkill’s The Walking Dead for PC, published by Starbreeze who are on the verge of collapse. While the console ports were delayed, in February there was an update to the partnership between Skybound (right’s holder of The Walking Dead) and Starbreeze, terminating the contract. Not surprisingly, there were several previous Walking Dead games including Telltale’s The Walking Dead seasons 1-4 with some spin-offs of their own. However, there will be yet another partnership between Skybound and this time, Survios.

Survios are known for their VR games such as Raw Data, Sprint Vector, and Creed: Rise to Glory. Nonetheless, to those of us who still don’t own a VR headset or the farmland required to play it, I could only speak of what I’ve been told about Creed. “It’s good,” as a friend told me when I asked about it. So one would assume this new Walking Dead game is in good hands. Have a look at the cinematic trailer and decide for yourself.

As someone who has watched several seasons of The Walking Dead up until this most recent one; I can say that this looks like The Walking Dead. A dark world, depressing aesthetic, and a lot of zombies are featured. However, there was something I’m sure fans have noticed in this trailer. Michonne’s Katana implanted in a zombie inside the diner we see in the trailer. This could mean, as one would mostly hope in a Walking Dead VR game, it will be melee-focused and tell a story of Michonne before joining the gang.

If you are a Walking Dead fan, I’m sure this will excite you. If you are a Walking Dead fan and have an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive you will be able to play The Walking Dead Onslaught this Fall.
