Since I was a little one (i.e the age of being able to grip a controller) I have loved one game over the rest. Sure, I remember Spyro and Crash Bandicoot every now and then, but I never forget about a farting maniacal alien. Yes, the Oddworld games started in 1997, and it only makes sense that this started my love for games being a ’97 baby myself. However, going back to these games it is hard. The PC port of 1997’s Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee is hell to play with a keyboard and mouse.
So when 2014 came along, there was this strange series atop the nostalgia tripped mountain. Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty! had released and it was a remake, remaster, or HD polish of Abe’s (original) Oddysee, this time all so shiny and new. Not only did this release clean up the graphics, but also created several gameplay improvements including a quick save feature. If you have ever played Abe’s Oddysee, then you know the pain of trying to get to a save point.
Though yes, Oddworld: Soulstorm finally has a trailer, and much like New ‘n’ Tasty, Soulstorm will be a re-imagining of the second game. Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus was the first game in the series to feature a quick save back in 1998. One can’t say whether this installment will be as much of a jump between the original release and this remaster? One can’t speculate at all with this trailer, because it is nothing more than a collection of cutscenes and references back to RuptureFarms of the first game.
As for the name of this remaster, you may know the reference to Warhammer 40,000. Back in 2008, there was a Dawn of War game called Soulstorm, which is being credited as the namesake of Oddworld: Soulstorm. Either way, we have to say that we here at Phenixx Gaming are excited to see a proper gameplay trailer soon. However, the release date for Soulstorm is slated for, “early 2020.”
