A ton of new info is out about Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 3. We already know the game is a Nintendo Switch exclusive, but here’s some of the biggest pieces of info that came out of this month’s Game Informer cover story. Spoilers to the plot and characters in the game follow. Read responsibly.

For starters, Team Ninja is handling development, while Marvel Games is providing writing talent, character selections, and watching over authenticity. Marvel Games also had control over the first two entries in the series. Nintendo visited Marvel before the Switch was publicly revealed in order to show them the hardware and plans moving forward, leading to the exclusive release. Marvel and Nintendo both wanted to see the Ultimate Alliance series come back, and a partnership boomed from there. Both companies saw the series as a great fit for Nintendo Switch due to the multiplayer focus and versatility of the Switch. Marc Sumerak is heading up the writing, and has written numerous Avengers stories in the past. His comic work is sure to please the hardcore Marvel fans.

Because of this, the story rides the line between comics and movies, with plenty of easter eggs and nods to the comics. The story starts on the Milano with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Rocket’s sensors pick up a reading from a derelict Kree warship; the Guardians board the ship and come across Nebula, Ronan the Accuser, and Proxima Midnight. The Infinity Stones are on the ship, and the fight between the two teams sends the stones flying across the universe. As the game progresses, characters are introduced with word graphics featuring names and witty descriptions. Team Ninja also notes that they kept the tutorials brief and folded into fights at the start of the game.

The next chapter takes place on Earth during a prison break at the super-powered Raft. Players will select characters at the blue S.H.I.E.L.D. points, and choose any combination. Some groups recieve bonuses depending on who you pair with who. For example, a Women of Marvel team-up bonus is awarded for select an all-female combination of characters. Likewise, Spider-Gwen and Miles Morales teaming up gets them a Web Warriors bonus. Multiple attribute bonuses can run at once, and others include titles like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Wisecracking Warriors, Femme Fatales, Defenders, Midnight Sons, and more.

This game is sure to be a huge hit with Marvel and Switch fans alike. Stay tuned to Phenixx Gaming as we continue to cover this highly anticipated action title.
