Avengers: Endgame is set to be a huge moment for pop culture. The culmination of over 20 Marvel films and their beloved characters made over $1 billion the first weekend it hit theaters. That’s crazy, but even more insane is the logistics of the film.
Starting back in 2008, Iron Man kicked off what would be an historic moment for cinema. A grand story told in little chapters over the course of 10+ years. I’m not a huge Marvel fan, but I ended up seeing a lot of these films. Why? Because this is an insane undertaking for any film company to take on. There are a lot of series that could try something like this, but Disney’s helming of the bulk of the Marvel Cinematic Universe made it possible.
Not to mention keeping the actors tied into these roles. That’s a lot to ask of a professional actor, who likely wants to push their craft to its farthest reaches. Rather than lie and say people like Chris Evans or Brie Larson were going to be huge stars without these films, let’s just be honest: these films will define their careers. That’s not a bad thing, even though people like Michael Keaton and Toby McGuire were worried about superheroes becoming the thing they were known for.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is not over, but this movie was a triumph of logistical movie making and planning. Spoilers and plot aside, it’s something that will likely never be matched again. Until 11 years and another massive Marvel movie release, that is.
