After a lackluster Twitch Prime reveal, Epic has come back with something to fill my regular giveaway shaped hole(s). For the next two weeks, Epic Games are giving away the physics puzzler World of Goo.

Some may think that it is strange to be more excited about a game from 2008 than the four with Twitch Prime; but I know what World of Goo is. I have been told it is one of the best puzzle games of all time, and it is definitely my idea of a good time. However, it did not exceed a resolution of 800×600, and for most would not run properly on most systems today, without glitches or other issues. This is where developer 2D Boy comes in. After Epic Games came to them, asking about doing the free promotion on the storefront they have revealed a nice surprise.

So over the last few months, we have rebuilt the game for Win/Mac/Linux, and it should now work nicely again on everyone’s modern computers,” said designer, artist, and composer Kyle Gabler.

Some may wonder if this is to coincide with Epic’s promotion with 2D Boy, have they been given exclusivity money? No. The remaster of World of Goo will roll out on Steam and GOG editions as part of a soon-to-release update.

Gabler also went on to say, “We also made a lot of improvements over the years for other platforms, like Nintendo Switch, so we brought over those improvements as well.” Some of these updates will include the higher resolution, and “high quality upscaling tools to start,” however, for fans of the original game they can opt to remove these updates in the options menu. Nonetheless, there is one thing that will be removed from this remaster of World of Goo, and that is the idea of Leaderboards. Gabler explained the reasoning behind this removal – “Our poor server constantly got stressed out and shut itself down,” thus if you desire to keep track, Gabler suggests checking out GooFans.com.

If you would like to pick up World of Goo, it is currently free on the Epic Games Store.
