On the morning of April 29th, 2019 Warner Brothers confirmed that November 12, 2021, will see the release of the third chapter in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group Toby Emmerich, Stated that “We are incredibly excited about and have confidence in the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series. We all believe this release date will give the filmmakers time and space to allow their artistry to truly flourish and deliver the best possible film to our fans.

This quote is a direct reference to a few things: First Crimes of Grindelwald has been extremely controversial not only critically but also in the Harry Potter Fandom. Most of the outcry has been largely negative and to remedy this, pre-production was delayed to focus on making the movie “Bigger than the first two films combined”  and needs the extra prep time.

Secondly, the team behind the Fantastic Beasts films seems to have acknowledged that there were faults with the second film, and that the team (and even J.K.Rowling herself) wants to help fix the problems. Now, this is peer speculation on my part but most fans would agree that J.K. Rowling needs to do something to fix some of the issues, and fan backlash about certain plot holes.

Thirdly, the part of Toby Emmerich’s quote “Have confidence in the Fantastic Beasts series.” reads to me that internal executives were not happy with the fact that Crimes of Grindelwald only made 29.6 million its opening weekend, this is partly because the previous movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was also hit with mixed reviews. The third chapter in the Fantasitc Beasts series is set to begin filming in spring of 2020 instead of the summer of this year. David Yates is set to return to direct after directing the last four Harry Potter films and the first two Fantastic Beasts.
