It has been a tempered year for E3 as Sony and EA have confirmed they will no longer appear at the showcase. As some of us may be aware, EA isn’t really for the fans of an RPG, fun Doom-like shooters, or open-world action-adventure games like Grand Theft Auto. The EA showcase is for them to show new their sports games, say something that makes no sense to humans such as “Huch nob maHvaD!”, show one or two indie games they are supporting, and give money to charity. Some of which is nice and I can applaud them for the charity, but much like the PC gamer showcase I find myself shouting “Show us the damn games!”

Sony, on the other hand, are often a little more game focused: We’ll see trailers, and we’ll see someone play a version of the game for ten minutes as we did with God of War (2018). I often like Sony, as someone who has owned all four of their staple consoles; their exclusives are what I’ve played most, and though not all were good,  the last few years they’ve done well enough for themselves. Nonetheless, they have opted for a Nintendo Direct style conference called, “PlayStation: State of Play.” One of which we saw last month, and personally, it didn’t live up to the hype.

However, Microsoft and Xbox have confirmed they will be returning after last years massive showcase. I couldn’t stand the idea of owning an Xbox, two or even twelve years ago, and I’d detested the Xbox controller since I’d first played on the original Xbox. However, that was before owning the Xbox One Elite controller and the Xbox One S. Since last years show I’d decided to pick up the One S and I’ve yet to regret it. In last year’s show, there were a ridiculous number of games shown by Microsoft, and I, like many, loved this style of the showcase.

The Microsoft/Xbox showcase will take place on Sunday, June 9th at 1 PM local time, 4 PM Eastern Time, and 9 PM BST. Like previous years you will be able to watch the showcase live from your own bedroom or while taking a very large poo on the toilet. One would assume you’d be able to view the entire show, like previous years, on YouTube and Twitch, however, like last year Mixer will also feature the show. Mixer being Microsoft’s answer to Twitch and will feature, according to Microsoft, “true 4K Ultra HD on your Xbox One or on Mixer.com.”

If Microsoft/Xbox brings the same pace or greater than last year I will be extremely excited for their showcase this year. However, we will have to wait until June 9th to find out exactly what they have planned.
