We all love a continuation of the series we love. I would love to know there will be a third season of The Orville because I love the series. However, we’re here to talk about sequels to video games. You know, those things that you play several hours of and either love them or hate them. Sometimes a sequel can make sense, and we would relish more of what we’ve already seen and played but with a bit more story and adventure. Well, we may be seeing more of two Sony exclusives in the not so distant future.
Over the last few days, while scrolling through the catacombs of news filled with Star Wars and almost nothing else, I found two interesting pieces of information. One was about the open-world, crafting, and story-driven game, Horizon Zero Dawn. The other was a sequel to the Story-driven, action-adventure, and almost Metroidvania-like, God Of War (2018). Now, I have only played one of these games and loved it: but I avoided the other because I am a little burnt out on open-world and crafting games.
Where does this information come from? There are many questions one may have on when this was confirmed, where it came from, as well as who delivered the news; the answer may not surprise you. Lately Kotaku’s Jason Schreier has become a superstar reporter as he wrote a long expose on the issues at Bioware in recent years. However, he also provided clarification on the joke of a “leak” for the new and upcoming PS5 controller and console, which have yet to be officially revealed.
This time Schreier wrote an article about a Reddit post regarding a rumored sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn writing, “I don’t want to give you too much shock at once, but there’s gonna be another God of War, too.” This is all but confirming both are in the works, and with his work so far I have no place to doubt him. However, the reveal of Horizon Zero Dawn 2 was teased by voice actor Janina Gavankar, who voiced Tatai in The Frozen Wilds DLC. In a now deleted clip from Twitch, the voice actor and Editor in Chief of AltFound said, “It’s incredible, wait ’til you see the sequel. You’re gonna die – I know some secrets! – you’re gonna die.”
Sony has yet to comment on either of these possible leaks and with the release of both games being fairly recent, I doubt there will be an announcement soon. Speculation on both games will run rampant, and we’ll undoubtedly see plenty of that from fans of both games. If I had to give a conservative estimate on the release of either game I would say, don’t hold up hopes until at least late-2020 or mid-2021 before a proper trailer drops for either of them. However, I, like many fans, are excited to see what is next in store for the characters of both respective games.
