Starlink: Battle for Atlas is still moving forward with its space aerial combat content, just without the toys.
The game, published by Ubisoft, issued a press release regarding its upcoming content with an announcement that the toys were no longer being developed. The premise of the figures was to “mix and match pilots, hulls, wings, and weapons to build the starship of your dreams with an unprecedented level of customization and creativity,” according to the company. One of the coolest features of the figures was that changes happened in real time. If you pulled a weapon off and put another one on, it would show up in the game immediately.
The problem that followed Starlink: Battle for Atlas was, in fact, its main selling point. Configuring the ship build-outs required a lot of pieces. Likewise, it was large, somewhat clunky, and gave an obvious distraction away from the actually good gameplay in the title itself. Starlink‘s development team was clear that the lack of physical toys would not hinder progress.
“As part of our effort to do right by our passionate and dedicated community we are currently hard at work on our biggest update to the game so far and are pleased to tell all of you that there will be new digital ships, pilots and weapons to collect,” the team said in its press release. If the content is steady and pushes the game forward, I see no reason why this would mean the end of Starlink: Battle for Atlas. Later this month, the update should release with new content, characters, and more, keeping the game alive and well.
If you are interested in Starlink, the time could not be more opportune. The basic set featuring the now discontinued toys are regularly going on sale for $19.99 for Xbox One and PS4 and $29.99 on Nintendo Switch. As of now, there is no current sale, but keep an eye out.
