If you haven’t played Minecraft at this point, it might not be on your radar. That being said, trying it out for free is a whole other story.
Xbox Game Pass is a subscription program offered by Microsoft. For a monthly fee, subscribers get access to hundreds of games that range from the OG Xbox days, all the way up until day-of releases from Microsoft Studios. For a lot of gamers on the Xbox, it is a no brainer. Now, subscribers can get their hands on Minecraft.
The ultimate sandbox game, Minecraft is about as limitless as the mind itself. Jokingly considered a children’s game for the easy, slow speed of its gameplay, Minecraft is a ton of fun. The game just had its best year yet in 2018, and with updates to every major console and PC constantly rolling out to make things more enjoyable, it is a true powerhouse. The game has also received a ton of revenue from merch, including everything from t-shirts to foam swords and stuffed creepers.
The two most popular game modes, survival and creative, are both a great entry for new players. Survival allows elements like food to come into play, while also including the threat of attackers. The first few nights when shelter is bare bones and your character has no real weapons are a real whirlwind. Creative is much more about, well, creating. If your idea of getting your hands on the game is making the most ridiculous castle you can imagine from the get-go, this is your game mode.
Minecraft is by no means a new game, but it feels fresh every time I log on and play. I’ve owned the game on Xbox 360, Wii U, Switch, and Xbox One. Every time I purchased the game, it was well worth it. For free? It’s a total steal.
Xbox Game Pass Subscribers can download Minecraft starting today.
