Phillips Hue, the app-enabled color changing line of lightbulbs and similar products, may be working with Microsoft on compatibility with the Xbox One.

A lot of gamers, particularly on the PC, like to have some lights set up to make their gaming station feel special. Maybe a backlight around a desk, some strobes on an entertainment console, or the classic holiday lights wrapped around clips from the wall can make a gaming area feel really put together. Phillips Hue lights bring that same style, along with an app to control their brightness, color, and even timers, to the living room and other locations around the home.

I picked up some Hue lights around the holidays, and with some packages costing around $200 as starter kits, it can seem a bit silly. The life on these bulbs, however, is over 10 years, and mine turn on at 6:30 every morning, around the time I take my dogs outside and feed them. It’s a super cool thing that, while by no means necessary, totally makes me happy every time I dim the lights for the evening or turn them a dull red for a movie night.

Bringing that experience to the Xbox would be awesome, especially for those who already own them. When asked if Philips Hue would ever support Xbox One, the company said, “We’d love to make Hue Sync available on as many platforms as possible, we started with PC and Mac because we’re able to do this by ourselves, to move to other platforms we’ll need to work closely with the other companies. We are working on this, we’ll just need some time.”

Does some time mean that they are already in the process? Speculations can run wild, and I’m letting mine run all the way to getting my hopes up and hoping that this happens sooner than later.
